Everyone agreed the gathering had been a great success and should be repeated. By way of a test-run, Fran, Jaqui, Liz and Shirley came up with the idea of a jaunt to the Côte dAzur to see Jaqui's new house. In the event, Shirley couldn't go, so Bill and Tony generously agreed to escort their better halves.

Liz and Bill drove to Fran & Tony's home in the Thames Valley and thence via a low-cost airline from Luton to Nice. |

Fran and Tony's French house is approached via a narrow street so typical of old towns but the geography makes it quite difficult to photograph:- the two pictures above show the front door (right) and Liz on the first floor balcony (left). The balcony looks out over oleanders and oranges to views of the old town. The spacious accommodation makes this the perfect hideaway. Being in the old town, all shops and amenities are within an easy stroll. |
|
Jaqui & Peter's former house is located not far from Fran and Tony. Jaqui explains that the house was a horsemeat butcher's shop during the 30's and the war years. Hence the horse's head which is just visible over the front door. Later it became a centre for intellectual and artistic soirees. |

Jaqui stands back whilst Liz and Fran watch Tony skilfully opening Champagne. |
Outdoor features include a built-in barbecue and a swimming pool. |
Jacqui and Peter's new house is on the edge of town and is breathtaking. Standing well back in its own very private grounds, our pictures show front and back views. The property had been empty for some time before Jaqui and Peter acquired it and consequently needed much attention both inside and out. In a short time, Jacqui and Peter have created a stunning home and have obviously brought flair, imagination and considerable energy to bear on what, to lesser mortals, might have been a daunting challenge. We hope we will be able to see it again when all the contractors have finished. |
